Some of the great names in the latin rock and reggae scenes united to give a tribute to another great name, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. I am not too fond of tributes, but this one, this one is different.
Let's see, we have Andres Calamaro, Aterciopelados, Dr. Krapula, Los Pericos, Nortec Collective, Los Amigos Invisibles, and more; it sounds like an awesome line up for a show, but not at all. Instead, they collaborated to make the Cadillacs stand out more than what they already are ... it is THAT good.
"Vos Sabes" by Los Cafres and "Desapariciones" by Matamba are my two favorite interpretations. All 17 tracks feautured on the album are Cadillacs hits, infact, these are the songs you would EXPECT to be on a Cadillacs tribute. The interpretations are not exact, but that's the beauty of it all, every artist tweaked the song to their own style, for example, in "Padre Nuestro", Aterciopelados add their unique hypnotizing effects and Amigos Invisibles have a more mambo-funk version of "Mal Bicho".
For the most part, the majority of the songs in the album are by reggae artists. Therefore, it has that reggae swagger rather than pure ska. In totality, it is a great tribute, and I recommend it to everyone (especially the version of "Vos Sabes" below).
