Spanglish is not an underground movement to piss off your mom or your Literatura teacher back home. Spanglish is the reality of us who, when in danger, don’t mind being rescued by Spiderman or El Chapulin Colorado.
And this generation is starting to produce a great deal of artistic talent from the most Hispanic populated areas of the U.S, who are embracing their bi-lingual/cultural status. Bang Data is one of those projects. Coming out of the San Fran Bay area and with some of the most active members in the Latin Alternative Music scene, Bang Data has released “Maldito Carnaval”, a collection of tracks that moves from hip-hop to cumbia, electro/synth to reggae with a mainstream approach worth the sweat.
Some of the track highlights: the opening single ”Bang Data”, “Drivin’ steady”, and a version of Piero’s mega hit “Mi Viejo” with a modern hip-hop twist.
All the props to these San Fran veterans for staying ahead of the game and embracing their cultura.
