Latin America's leading hip hop lady is back for another round, and this time around she calls out her country's social issues.

Thematically speaking Ana's brilliant sophomore album, 1977, is the polar opposite of La Bala. While 1977 is an autobiographical piece dealing with her upbringing as a Chilean foreigner in France and her return to Chile during her formative years, La Bala is an ode to the 99%. Student protests, political fallacies, and social injustices that are presently taking place in Latin America were all her inspirations for this album. Musically speaking, Ana hasn't strayed too far from her previous delivery. She still has her classic matter of fact rhetoric and the same accent bending abilities in her tongue. She has the magical power of sounding sultry and sensual yet her words are powerful and carry punch. The backing beats are similar in her style, and this time around she has guest artists contributing. This album doesn't feel like a departure but a continuation of the Ana we know thus far.

3 Songs Worth Listening:

  1. "La Bala" Perfect opener for the album with it's military strut beats in the background while depicts the story of an ill-fated man during a protest and his weeping mother.
  2. "Shock"- A fierce tinge of spite in her emotions and a call to action in her words, this song gives the bird to the government.
  3. "Volver" - The string section is impeccable and her voice singing along to the beat will melt you like butter.

This album makes me want to: Take in her words, and blend with the beats.
